Verified Reviewer | Chandler, ArizonaRacial Diversity
Let me start by communicating I am a small business owner that takes pride in recognizing equality and diversity, dont see color but rather the man or woman and feel we all have the same chances as our effort is the measure of our character in todays society. I happen to be white, which I only offer for context.
I am not privileged, am a patriot, ex-military and have had the privilege of serving, working and managing so many great men and women over the course of my different career paths. I dont see sex, race or creed. I see your character.
As I watch the pregame show, Mr. Goodells interview with JB, the show piece on African American equality and the progression of African American athletes in the league, I cant help but feel disappointed with the NFL.
The league is over 70% African American.
That percentage might not be equally represented with regard to coaches but does it have to? What is the fair percentage of diversity; 50%, 60%, 70% African American, in line with the percentage of players? When is it equal and when is the league happy? Is this a topic of popularity or is it because it is Black History Month?
The call to race regardless of your color or intent perpetuates the focus on segregation even if its subconscious. Based off the figures of ethnic separation in the NFL, lobbying for either side is going to divide race further. How many Caucasians feel slighted by the focus on more African American diversity especially when the diversity figures are such? Im not asking for more Caucasian diversity.
Competition has resulted in the current percentage of separation which is fine and I dont share this from a racial point of view. I respect but compete with who ever I need for my advancement regardless of color, sex, or any other existential measurement. The league shouldnt join the popularity contest.
The NFL is based off competition. Why is forced diversity even a topic of conversation with regard to race in the NFL?
This isnt the 50s-60s when segregation was still a thing. The league has never been segregated which is something the NFL should be proud of and if you wanted to see things from a positive point of view, do a piece on the amount of opportunity African Americans have had in the league since the 60s. Focus on the progression through today and really paint the picture of the success rather than the need to correct the failure.
Im really disappointed in the NFL for the position being taken on diversity. Equality is measured in competition.
Kudos to the position being taken on sexual equality.
I think it is a great thing to see the opportunity being given to women in the NFL.
Pick that opportunity to focus on.
The race issue has been reversed. Lets not perpetuate it and continue the division.
